SAFE and Choose Cruelty Free Australia unite For the past 14 years a small yet committed team has been determined to make Australia's consumer product market entirely cruelty free. It's been hard work. The initial step was the formation of Choose Cruelty Free (CCF) in 1993. CCF is an independent, voluntary organisation that actively promotes a cruelty free lifestyle. Based in Melbourne, the group is reliant on donations and funds received from companies that use a CCF-accredited cruelty-free logo on their products. CCF is flanked by a bevy of Australian actors, musicians, celebrities and television hosts (including high-profile people such as Hugh Jackman, Suzie Wilks, John Farnham, Vanessa Amorosi and Dannii Minogue) who all support CCF's work. CCF's charter is to empower consumers to make purchasing decisions that will ultimately see the demise of all animal testing. The Preferred Products List is the cruelty free shopping guide that makes this possible. It identifies which companies do not test or commission tests on animals. SAFE and CCF joining forcesExpanding on CCF's work in Australia, SAFE and CCF will be working together to bring the first Australasian cruelty free preferred products list. CCF office manager Liz Jackson says she is delighted to be working with SAFE. "We are delighted to promote New Zealand's cruelty-free companies in our Preferred Products List. With the help of SAFE, we can extend our current list and show the world that Australia and New Zealand can work together to eliminate the testing of cosmetics and household products on animals - an outdated practice in view of today's awareness of ethical issues," says Liz. TAKE ACTION Be our cruelty free investigator! SAFE is starting to compile a full list of consumer products available in New Zealand (whether they are tested on animals or not). We want to know what products you use such as household cleaners, body and beauty care products, soaps and toothpaste, etc. Please send us a list of product names, the companies that make them and/or their distributor. Even better, include any contacts such as a phone number, email or website address that might be listed on the product. We will use this to develop a full database of products available in New Zealand. Email to: choosecrueltyfree@safe.org.nz or post to: SAFE, PO Box 13 366, Christchurch, 8011. |
