glue trapGLUE TRAP ALERT

The Auckland SPCA is calling for shoppers to alert them if they find glue traps being sold at retail or hardware stores. The cruel traps were deemed illegal for domestic use from this year.

The Auckland SPCA has revealed some retailers are continuing to sell glue traps, intended for use around the home or office, despite the traps being made illegal. The traps are a cardboard tube-shape with the base covered in sticky glue. Any small animal that steps onto the trap gets stuck and often dies a slow and painful death.

Glue traps were declared 'restricted' due to the pain and distress exhibited by animals caught in the glue and the potential risk of people disposing live animals in a cruel manner.

The $2 shops and other cheap import stores have been found to be selling the glue traps in Auckland, so it is expected this will be the case nationwide.

If you visit a discount store, please ask if they stock glue traps, and if they do, let the store know these are now illegal to sell and use. Then notify your local SPCA who will instruct the store to remove the traps from sale immediately.
