MONEY MAKING FUND RAISING TIPSSAFE's fundraising coordinator Chloe Youngson is pleased to announce she has had an outstanding response after a recent request for donation box placements. "I have received excellent feedback and wish to extend my thanks to everyone who got in touch with me, especially those who offered to host a box in their own work place," says Chloe. "I would love to receive more brilliant suggestions so please tell me your favourite shops and businesses that you think would host one of our stylish donation boxes." The donation box programme is an important aspect of fundraising for SAFE, encouraging communities to get actively involved in helping animals. Chloe emphasises the importance of getting more boxes out in our communities. "The more donation boxes out there, the more money we can raise for animals in New Zealand." Donation boxes are especially needed in Dunedin, Hamilton, Rotorua, Wellington and smaller centres throughout the country. So don't be shy! Send in your suggestions to chloe@safe.org.nz or contact her at the Christchurch SAFE office on 03 379 9711.
SAFE is reliant on donations to continue its work to help animals. You can play a valuable role as a fundraising assistant by undertaking any of the following fund raising ideas. They can be fun, exciting and highly effective in raising money to help stop animal cruelty in New Zealand.
SAFE FUND RAISING IDEASFrom rags to riches. Trash to treasures. How many ways can you raise funds for animals? Baked goods. Coin trails. Garage sales. Sponsored walks. Car rallies. Face painting. Car washes to dog washes ... you name it, you can do it! Choose any of these ways to fundraise in your area, or come up with your very own way to help raise funds for SAFE. We want to hear your secret ways to make money, that SAFE can put to good use for the animals. By supporting SAFE's important work you will become one of SAFE's treasured fundraisers. YOUNG ONES TO FUN ONES!BAKE cakes, cookies or muffins. Treat your neighbours by going door-to-door to sell them. Alternatively, set up a cake stall (at the end of your drive, your local market, or busy street), with signs that read 'raising money for animals'. SPONSOR acts of animal kindness. Offer to wash or groom animals, clean cages, provide quality time and company, give special treats (catnip to cats, chew toys to dogs) to somebody else's animal in return for a donation. | |

Provide a WALKING SERVICE for dogs in your area. Try advertising on the notice board of your local supermarket, library, etc. Remember to say 'fundraising for animals'. Collect bric-a-brac and hold a GARAGE SALE. Clear out unwanted bits and pieces. Ask family members and friends to do the same. Set a date and advertise on your street and in your local papers. Organise a sausage sizzle at the same time - vegetarian of course - or try selling homemade cakes. ADVERTISE valuable unwanted household items separately in the Trade and Exchange and send proceeds to SAFE. Set up a CAR WASH on a prominent main road in your neighbourhood. Make large signage that drivers can see at a glance. Charge per car or gain sponsorship from companies or friends for the number of cars you clean for free! CLASSROOM MONEY MAKERSAsk your teacher to help organise a 'Free the animals' COIN TRAIL at school. Students bring a gold coin and lay their coin down in a long trail. The trail could snake around the lines of a large drawing of an animal that you draw on the ground with chalk. Encourage students in your class or at school to help fundraise for animals by donating items for a GARAGE SALE. Get parents and other students along to buy everybody else's stuff! Hold a BEAN COUNT! Fill a large glass jar with Skittles or something else small and colourful. Charge money to guess how many are in the jar. The one who guesses the closest wins the lot! Organise a vegetarian SAUSAGE SIZZLE. The Warehouse often allows the use of their forecourt. Contact the manager or fundraising co-ordinator to ask permission. Bean Supreme offers SAFE members a special rate, so order through SAFE Auckland (auckland@safe.org.nz). Make signs and go for it! FUN FOR EVERYONEHold a MARKET STALL. Take your garage sale, vege sausage sizzle or cake stall to your local market place. Get friends, family, school or social club mates to donate or make items to sell. Organise a DOG'S DAY OUT that provides families and their dogs with fun activities at your local park or school grounds. Set an attendance fee and make it a social occasion with a BYO food and drinks table. Have competitions and prizes for the 'Shaggiest Dog', the 'Naughtiest Dog', 'Smartest Dog' and the 'Best-Behaved Dog'. Hold a Dog's Best Friend running race - the dogs are bound to join in and make matters more fun! Organise a TRIVIAL PURSUITS evening at your place. Charge entrants to join a team. Provide fun token prizes and BYO drinks or cash bar and nibbles. Host a WINE TASTING evening. Charge a set fee (e.g., $25) and offer a selection of wines and nibbles. Prizes for the most imaginative wine descriptions or even for guessing the right wine! Hire a KARAOKE machine and get crazy! Build the hire cost into the ticket and provide a light supper. Prizes for best singer, worst performer, best rock star look-alike. Some venues may let you hire premises and charge an entry fee. Start a NAUGHTY BOX for all those times you slip up from a resolution or for swearing. Terrific at work or around the house! Place a COLLECTION BOX in a prominent place to entice your well-meaning friends to donate. You can obtain a SAFE collection box if you have a commercial place in mind, e.g., work, café or health food store. |
