Sanctuary visit

Auckland campaign officer Eliot Pryor reports that there are two places left for anyone interested in helping on the Animal Sanctuary working bee this Saturday (World Animal Day, 4 October).

There is a limit of twelve people for the trip, and Eliot says ideally they would love to include someone who can offer the use of a minivan to transport the group. If you are this dream person and are keen to help out on a place that helps rescued animals then get in touch with Eliot on eliot@safe.org.nz.

Eliot says when they visited for the first time in May they had a chance to meet the animals, and at that time had the idea of visiting again for the purpose of helping out.

"It's not often we get the chance to interact with the animals themselves, and being able to help the Sanctuary with the work they do is a great excuse for visiting again!"

WORLD ANIMAL DAY

World Animal Day (4 October) is a day of celebration for everyone who cares about animals. It began in 1931 as a way to highlight the plight of endangered species and has since grown to encompass all kinds of animal life. It is now widely celebrated in countries throughout the world.

October 4 was chosen as it is the Feast Day of St Francis of Assisi, the Patron Saint of Animals.

WAD hansSince the official World Animal Day (WAD) website was launched in 2003, the number of WAD events taking place throughout the world has increased year upon year. You can participate by getting involved with local activities, organising an activity yourself or by making a pledge for the day.

SAFE campaign director, Hans Kriek, is the 2008 Ambassador for WAD in New Zealand.
