Well here we are. Just days away from hosting the biggest SAFE annual street party. The guest list has been confirmed - it’s massive, with over 1200 already set to party in the spirit of saving animals! That’s right on target, too!

Congratulations if you’re one of the masses already signed up to have fun collecting for animals. It’s going to be a blast! For those still deciding, time is running out, but of course you or your friends can still just turn up unannounced on the day.

As you may know I have been jubilant about SAFE’s victories and successes throughout the year. This year we have been on an all-time high. The appeal is no exception, with a record-breaking increase in the number of collectors, coordinators, personnel and venues! The team, lead by our appeal coordinator Sacha Dowell, has been incredible, working hard to ensure this appeal makes 2009 another triumphant year for SAFE and the animals of New Zealand.

It’s not all jolly fun, mind you. We are often accused of being crazy to organise our largest annual event in the weeks leading up to Christmas - the busiest time of the year for everyone. People are invariably exceptionally busy planning family gatherings, attending functions, shopping for presents and minding children on school holidays, as well as planning their own holidays. Our extraordinary volunteer centre coordinators are no exception, which is why they must be lauded for offering up 4-5 hours of each day! You guys are awesome.

I love this time of year for SAFE. It vividly demonstrates what determination, passion and unity for the ’greater good’ can achieve for animals and for an organisation that continues to stand up for animals in New Zealand. Yeah, you may look a bit silly all dressed up in some animal outfit or bunny ears for a few hours, but on Friday we will all stand (and party) together. We will hit the streets and shake those buckets on behalf of the animals, and can feel proud knowing we offer the animals the greatest gift. I know you won’t let them down.

On behalf of the entire team, I wish you a safe and compassionate Christmas.

Anthony Terry
Director

WROOF, WROOF!!
A light-hearted contribution from one of our more-than-eager playful supporters!

It’s an exciting day for me today but it’s not because I’m getting another walk or extra food. I’m excited because I saw the postman coming through the gate. I’m not normally too fond of that postman. More ...
