COMPETITION


Volunteering for SAFE is an essential role as it helps to spread the message against animal cruelty issues across New Zealand. Volunteers can organise or assist with stalls, displays, public meetings, protest actions, fundraising events, and actively support SAFE's humane education programme. You are invited to support our work by getting involved locally.

SAFE North Shore Stalls and Actions

Botany Town Centre Stall, Saturday 11 September
SAFE will be holding a stall in Botany talking about the pig campaign. If you are keen to get involved please e-mail samantha@safe.org.nz

Supermarket Collection, Grey Lynn Foodtown, 18 September
We need several collectors to stand outside the supermarket with a collection bucket on this day. Please get in touch with samantha@safe.org.nz if you can help.  

Pet Expo, 18 and 19 September, North Shore Events Centre, Glenfield
We need a team of volunteers to help out at SAFE's stall at this years pet expo between 9.30am-5.30pm both days. Shifts will be 4 hours (morning/afternoon) and we also need help setting up on Friday 17th. If you are keen to get involved please e-mail samantha@safe.org.nz

Eastridge Mall Stall, Mission Bay, Saturday 2 October
SAFE will be holding a stall at Eastridge Mall talking about SAFE and the pig campaign. If you are keen to get involved please e-mail samantha@safe.org.nz


HAMILTON

Our hugely successful Hamilton crowd is in urgent need of volunteers if they are to continue setting up stalls. Stalls are the first Friday of every month, 11.30am-3,30pm in Garden Place, opposite Skycity, right beside Victoria Street. Stalls are occasionally held at other times as well, so get in touch even if that time does not suit! This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about animal issues and meet like-minded people. WELLINGTON
 

posterPUBLIC TALK: Legal Protection: The need for change now
1pm, Wednesday, 8 September. Turnbull House, Turnbull Lane, Wellington CBD.

Public talk in Wellington to discuss the Green's Private Member's Bill that could ban battery hen cages and sow stalls. SAFE campaign director Hans Kriek joins Green MP Sue Kedgley, RNZSPCA CEO Robyn Kippenberger, Eagle vs Shark actor Loren Horsley, to explain why it is imperative New Zealand's animal welfare laws must change in order to protect factory-farmed animals. Free. All welcome. 

Information stalls
Regular events are held in Wellington to raise awareness of intensive pig farming and other animal cruelty issues. Anyone wishing to help educate the public and recruit new SAFE members and volunteers email wellington@safe.org.nz.


CHRISTCHURCH

SAFE stall at Vegetarian Expo
Sunday 26th September, 10am - 4.30pm at Horticultural Centre, Riccarton Ave

We will do two stall shifts from 10am - 1.30pm and 1.30pm - 4.30pm with two people per shift. Free entry to the expo for stallholders. Let me know if you are keen to help with this. Email christchurch@safe.org.nz

SAFE Talk: A User's Guide to Veg Nutrition
7pm, Thursday 7 October. SAFE, Level 1, 145 Armagh St

Yolanda Soryl has been a vegan for 21 years and raised four vegan children. As Co-ordinator of the Christchurch Vegetarian Centre, she has written a series of five leaflets on veg nutrition. Yolanda will talk about her experiences learning about vegetarian/vegan nutrition and give tips on what you need to know to optimise your vegetarian/vegan diet. All welcome. Office work
There are some office projects SAFE would like some help with at the moment, ranging from stuffing envelopes to making up resource packs and doing data entry. If anyone can volunteer some time during the week, even a few hours, please contact sacha@safe.org.nz

Street stalls/leafletting
SAFE is organising weekly outreach events for the pig campaign to hand out leaflets, gather more signatures on the pig pledge and hand out shopping lists (pig costume optional!). These events will be held around lunchtime or in the afternoon on a weekday. If you're keen to get involved please email sacha@safe.org.nz. If weekdays don't suit but you'd be keen to help with such an event on the weekend, let us know.

 

OAMARU

There are a small group of keen SAFE supporters in Oamaru planning activities in the area. Next meeting: 2pm, Sunday 19 September. Email peter.anthea@paradise.net.nz for details. If you are in Oamaru and care about animal cruelty issues such as factory farming, please get in touch! 

 

DUNEDIN

Meetings are held every second Tuesday at 6.30pm, at Circadian Rhythm, 72 St Andrew Street, Dunedin. Email dunedin@safe.org.nz.
