PIG CAMPAIGN RECEIVE WIDESPREAD SUPPORT |
SAFE's campaign to end cruel pig farming practices continues to receive fantastic support from the New Zealand public. SAFE has been informing people about factory pig farming through nationwide stalls, the distribution of campaign packs and lately, television advertising. "I am very pleased with the level of support we are receiving," says campaign director Hans Kriek. "Many people no longer buy factory-farmed ham and bacon and even more have generously donated towards our campaign." The ‘LovePigs, Not Pork' re-usable shopping bags have also proven to be a great hit with many thousands already sold. "Not only are these bags good for spreading the message in support of pigs, they are also helping the environment," says Hans. In response to the increased awareness of the cruelty of factory pig farming, a number of pig farmers have started to change over to free-range farming practices. Free-range pig products are becoming increasingly available in supermarkets and this trend is expected to accelerate in the coming years. The Government will be making important decisions on the future of sow stalls and battery hen cages in 2009. It is time to convince our legislators to finally do the right thing and ban these barbaric farming practices.
