Did you know that a snail travels at 58cm per hour? That they eat more ice cream in Alaska than anywhere else in America and that Ugly Betty's smile is insured for $10 million? No? Well neither did we...but this didn't stop the SAFE team from winning the recent Christchurch Vegetarian Society Quiz night.
The stakes were high as the SAFE team had won the previous year, so had a reputation to uphold. Our greatest competition last year was the Vegetarian Youth Group. This year we were careful not to yell out the answers in the excitement of the moment. Those young ears catch everything! There were some last minute changes of mind that at times played in our favour and at times didn't. A tense moment occurred as we wrangled over whether Roadrunner had ever been caught by Wile E. Coyote. Never, once or 18 times? Was it once or never? The stress, the anxiety, the fear of losing to the Vegetarian Youth Group! Thankfully we got this one right, those years of sitting in front of the TV everyday after school finally paid off! We'll be back again next year to uphold the SAFE name and with hopes of winning more tasty vegan goodies! Thanks to the Vegetarian Society in Christchurch for putting on a great night and delicious supper. Thanks especially to the SAFE team - Phil, Chloe, Hans, Pam, Nichola and Mark.
