Labour has committed to Stop Factory Farming!
Today they released their Animal Rights Policy to supporters. Here's the section on factory farming:
- Work to abolish intensive farming practices. Labour will work to abolish inhumane intensive farming practices. We will aim to have legislation passed by the end of 2016, which phases out intensive farming.
- The worst practices including sow and farrowing crates will end immediately but others such as chicken farming will take longer.
It's short, but it represents change for millions of animals. By committing to get the legislation in place to end intensive farming by 2016, Labour is committing to help the millions of chickens, pigs, and other animals confined in factory farms.
Until the policy is written into law, SAFE will continue to campaign on this issue. But for the moment, the future has never looked so bright for factory-farmed animals.
