To end the exploitation of animals

SAFE’s vision is a world where animal rights are valued. We work to achieve that vision through our mission to end the exploitation of animals.

That future isn’t far away. With the help of our supporters, every day we are making massive wins for thousands of animals, and each step forward brings us closer to an Aotearoa where all animals matter.

Protect the ban on Live Export

National and Act are seeking to reverse the ban on live animal exports, posing a significant risk to animal welfare. You can make a difference by showing Christopher Luxon (National Party Leader) and David Seymour (ACT Party leader) that there is significant support in the general New Zealand community for ending the live export of animals.

Animals in Aotearoa

Support our current campaigns to help animals

The scale of suffering faced by animals in New Zealand, particularly farmed animals, is immense - but we are driving positive change at an immense scale too. Stand with us as we demand change for animals in Aotearoa.

Sign our petition calling for a Commissioner for Animals

While there are Government bodies to represent vulnerable members of our community, including children and the environment, animals are not represented in Parliament. That is why we have formed the Commissioner for Animals Alliance. Together, our voices are stronger.

Stand against the Fast-Track Approvals Bill

The New Zealand Government has recently introduced a Fast-Track Approvals Bill in parliament, which threatens to undermine the vital process of public consultation on resource consent. This proposed legislation would strip away the mandate for adequate public consultation on projects such as intensive barns, winter grazing, fish farms, marine developments, and dairy intensification; operations which are already associated with significant welfare issues for animals.

New Zealand's Dairy Industry

New Zealand’s dairy industry is responsible for extraordinary suffering.

Mother cows are being pushed to their limits and every year, as many as two million calves are killed within their first week of life. Intensive dairying is also devastating our waterways, our climate and the integrity of our land.

Putting animals first for over 80 years

You’ll find us everywhere – from farms to the Beehive, from the High Court to the classroom, from television news to social media – working to ensure the concerns of animals are the concerns of the nation.

The results of the 2023 general election are in, and it seems Aotearoa will now be shifting to a National-led Government.
