Stop live export
Each year tens of thousands of New Zealand animals are exported live to places such as China, Mexico and Saudi Arabia.
These ocean journeys lasting several weeks cause unimaginable stress for the animals and many suffer and even die as they struggle to adapt to the conditions and food on board ship.
Right now, the government is looking to send thousands of pregnant ewes to Saudi Arabia, essentially bypassing the ban on export for slaughter in order to secure a free trade deal. Furthermore, the Mexican government is eager to import two million New Zealand sheep by 2018, and cattle are being considered for shipment to South East Asia where they could be sledgehammered to death.
There is simply no humane way to transport tens of thousands of animals half way around the world. This abhorrent practice must stop.
- Help end live export
Support our work carrying out investigations, conducting research, educating the public and calling for the government to put a stop to the horrors of live export once and for all.
