Fish in the Environment

Due to the incredible complexity of the marine ecosystem, the multitude of issues facing different fish is not limited to individual fish species, but to the whole of ocean life.

The marine ecosystem is inseparable from environmental issues on land.

For example the pollution of marine areas such as New Zealand's harbours and lakes is directly linked to runoff from farms.

The health or sickness of New Zealand's marine ecosystems is an indication of the health or otherwise of our environment, and of the kind of environment we will leave for generations to come.

Not eating fish will not only give the animals a break, but also give over-exploited fish stocks a chance to recover to levels that sustain the population and the ecosystem around them.
