To end the exploitation of animals

SAFE’s vision is a world where animal rights are valued. We work to achieve that vision through our mission to end the exploitation of animals.

That future isn’t far away. With the help of our supporters, every day we are making massive wins for thousands of animals, and each step forward brings us closer to an Aotearoa where all animals matter.

Mud Farming in New Zealand

Mud farming (also known as intensive winter grazing) is one of the most overtly cruel and environmentally damaging farming practices in Aotearoa.

Animals are forced to live and give birth in cold, wet mud through the winter season. This practice causes extreme discomfort to animals and severely pollutes our freshwater.

Protect the ban on Live Export

On the 30th of April 2023, Aotearoa enacted a world-leading ban on the live export of cows, sheep, deer, and goats by sea. The ban was implemented following decades of substantial evidence proving that animals are harmed in the trade. However, this historic victory for animals is under threat as the coalition government is attempting to reinstate this horrific industry.

Take action for Greyhounds

The government will finally make its decision on the future of greyhound racing before the end of the year. If racing continues, so will the suffering and death of dogs. Urge Government to make the right decision.

Unveiling the link: Animal agriculture and climate change

In the ‘big story’ of combating climate change, there’s a chapter that often goes unnoticed: animal agriculture. Unfortunately, without examining that chapter, the story doesn’t make sense.  Here in New Zealand, where agriculture is a cornerstone of our economy, the connection between animal agriculture and greenhouse gas emissions is undeniable.  ...
