SAFE has launched a major new campaign calling for an end to factory farming in Aotearoa, backed by a public petition and a nationwide
New Zealand’s animal welfare system is failing the animals it is meant to protect. While the Animal Welfare Act recognises that animals deserve care and protection, these safeguards are too often poorly enforced. The key problem is that the same government agency responsible for supporting agricultural growth is also responsible for enforcing animal welfare laws.
Without independent oversight and strong accountability, industry influence can shape animal welfare decisions and weaken protections for animals. The result is a system that allows suffering to continue. Animals deserve better than a system that protects them on paper but fails them in practice.
