Head of Campaigns

These are extraordinary times and our economy, our health, who we are, demand a different way. Change needs to happen right now. Animals need us to make their lives better, today and into the future.

For almost 90 years SAFE has been the leading animal rights organisation in Aotearoa, you’ll find us everywhere – from farms to the Beehive, from the High Court to the classroom, from television news to social media – working to ensure the concerns of animals are the concerns of the nation, and winning campaigns that make real change for animals.

We need an extraordinary person to join our senior management team. You will be a strong leader, with a proven ability to build, lead, and inspire your team. You will be responsible, together with your team, for the design and delivery of a programme of campaigns and projects to achieve change for animals. Dimensions of campaigns can include digital communications, investigations and research, advocacy and litigation, content creation and media communications, community organising, and public actions. You will be expected to play a crucial role in helping generate the resources needed to win campaigns.

To be considered for this role you will need to demonstrate:

  • that you are vegan with a knowledge of and genuine commitment to animal rights;
  • significant relevant experience in leadership and management;
  • experience in project management as a project leader with the ability to manage and work effectively with project teams to develop effective campaigns and communications for multiple audiences;
  • proven experience in developing effective campaign strategies and constructing multiple layer project and implementation plans to deliver strategic outcomes;
  • that you are able to both manage your direct reports and the integration of your work with multiple teams;
  • public relations and/or communications experience.

This job is not for the faint-hearted. Previous experience in a charity environment or an understanding of the non-profit sector is a must. This is a challenging, broad role where every day is different – one day you might be on the ground fronting the media, another day you might be managing budgets and planning outcomes for the next big change-making campaign for animals.

The senior management team is a fast-paced, proactive environment where confident decision making, high performance, and proven resilience are necessary to get the job done. You need to be able to work under pressure and produce results. You will be able to think clearly on your feet and display clear, inspirational leadership in a dynamic and challenging environment.

It won’t always be easy, but it will be worth it. If you join the team at SAFE you will wake up each day knowing that you are part of a passionate team dedicated to making a real difference.

This is a permanent, full-time position (40 hours a week), and there is the option with this role to work from home, however, the position must be based in New Zealand.

The starting salary for this role is $86265 p.a.

If you want to be part of our work in 2021 and beyond, then please send your CV and a separate Cover Letter to [email protected] by 5pm New Zealand time on 8 January 2021.

Please email [email protected] if you would like a full job description.

We look forward to hearing from you.
