How YOU put an end to Richmond Rodeo

April 3rd, 2017

The Nelson SAFE Volunteer Group is  celebrating after hard work and perseverance in their campaign against  rodeo cruelty finally paid off, with the recent announcement that  Richmond Rodeo would be cancelled.

In a multi-pronged campaign, the group organised peaceful protests,  wrote to local newspapers, distributed leaflets, collected petition  signatures, and wrote letters to local companies urging them to withdraw  their sponsorship. One local volunteer even had a mobile billboard  created and attached to his truck, which he drove around town in the  lead-up to the event.

When the cancellation of Richmond rodeo was announced towards the end  of last year, ‘sponsorship issues’ and ‘lack of support’ were cited  among the reasons – making all of those hours spent writing, protesting  and leafletting in a horse costume suddenly seem so worthwhile!

Thanks to your emails and letters, companies across the country,  including LJ Hooker, Ray White, Harcourts, Firth Industries, Saddlery  Warehouse, Rock Gas and Placemakers have all recently ended their  sponsorship of rodeo.  To find out how you can help by asking other  companies to follow suit, click here.
