Animal Guardians

Animal Advocacy:

SAFE animal advocacy campaigns are high-profile and get results. SAFE campaigns seek to impact the areas of animal cruelty and abuse that affect the greatest number. This includes:

  • Layer hens in the commercial egg industry
  • Mother pigs in sow crates
  • Bobby calves in the dairy industry
  • Animals abused in rodeo
  • Chickens bred for their meat
SAFE Animal advocacy creates change at a legislative and industry level, directly affecting the lives of hundreds of millions of animals.

Education:

SAFE education programmes range from those for school-aged children through to academic research that informs the animal agriculture industry and government. This includes:

  • SAFE Animal Squad - a children’s education club for children ages 8 – 12
  • The Animals & Us curriculum textbook for secondary school children
  • Academic research projects on key animal welfare issues including animal testing, farrowing crates, colony cages, and the use of animals in research. These research projects aim to influence change at a policy and industry level and are undertaken by internationally recognised experts.

Plant-based living:

SAFE’s ‘Eat Kind’ programme gives members of the public practical tools and support to transition successfully to a plant-based lifestyle. This includes a full-colour print nutrition and product guide, a structured six-week challenge programme, and weekly email support.

Why should you consider making a Will?

Making a Will means you can take care of those you love after you’ve gone. It is the only means of ensuring that you are in control of what happens to your possessions and minimises stress and uncertainty for your loved ones.

If the welfare of New Zealand’s animals is something that you care about, by including SAFE in your Will you can make sure you have a direct impact for animals long into the future.

It is often thought that only wealthy people can leave a gift to a charity when they pass away, when in fact, most legacy gifts are made by ordinary, hard working people just like you who want to make a positive difference after they have gone.

SAFE Animal Guardians

By leaving a gift to SAFE in your Will you become part of our legacy society, the SAFE Animal Guardians. The SAFE Animal Guardians is our commitment to you that your gift will have a direct and enduring impact on the lives of New Zealand’s animals. Being a member of SAFE Animal Guardians simply means you receive two personalised updates a year about how your support makes a difference for animals.

Next steps

Leaving a legacy gift to SAFE in your Will is easy. Once you’ve taken care of family and close friends, your gift for animals can be as little or as much as you want.
We recommend visiting your solicitor or trustee company for assistance. You may find the suggested text below useful;

I declare that the receipt of the Secretary or other appropriate officers of SAFE Incorporated shall be sufficient discharge and release to my trustee(s).

"SAFE gives a voice to the voiceless. It throws light on human-induced animal suffering caused by practices that have no place in a civilised society. SAFE campaigns have yielded results: animal advocacy works. That is why I have left a gift to SAFE in my Will.”
